Samburu National Reserve is One of the famous Safari destinations in East Africa. It is located in Northern Kenya and is a premier game reserve situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river.

This vast expanse of remote pristine wilderness measures 165 square kilometres in area and borders the Ewaso Ng’iro River to the south, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve.

Samburu National Reserve is a unique wildlife conservation haven famous for an abundance of rare species of animals such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx.

The reserve is also home to a population of close to 900 Elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the famous Lioness that adapted a baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve).

Samburu is infact one of the best locations in Kenya to spot Leopard. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area and Birdlife is abundant with over 450 recorded species.

Samburu as a wildlife eco system now also comprises a number of conservancies and group ranches bordering the main reserve such as the Kalama Conservancy, West Gate Community Conservancy and Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy.

Samburu National Reserve is considered among the best wildlife reserves not just in Kenya but also in East Africa and this package is embellished with Masai Mara, Nanuki and Naivasha.

Note: The options below are just suggestions, I have given 5-star and 4-star camp categories. The package can be tailor made to suite your budget and work with your guidance.  We can also offer accommodation in other low tier camps.

The quote is for 2 people only. If other people are joining the transport rate will go lower since the 4×4 can accommodate 6 people

ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival at JKIA

Advise if a transfer to your place of residence is needed. This will be at an additional cost.

Day 2 to 4 – Rest days

Take rest as you adjust to the time difference and being in our beautiful country. Nairobi offers a vast range of activities/sceneries; we are happy to give you suggestions for day visits.

Day 5: Nairobi – Samburu

After breakfast, you will be met by your private tour guide at the hotel reception to start your drive to Samburu. Samburu National Reserve is one of Kenya’s lesser-known gems, but teeming with wildlife and dramatic volcanic scenery you may otherwise only see in the movies!

 Day 6: Samburu

Enjoy a full day at this unique wildlife conservation haven! Situated alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, there is plenty to attract wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains.

You are likely to sight rare northern species such as the Grey zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and the Beisa Oryx – also referred to as the “Samburu Special 5”. The reserve is also blessed with a minimum of 900 elephants.

Large predators such as the lion, leopard, and cheetah are prevalent in this area as well.

You can choose to either do two game drives; one in the morning and another one in the afternoon – or you can embark on a full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch.

 Day 7: Samburu – Nanyuki

After breakfast, you will be met by your private tour guide at the hotel reception to start your drive to Nanyuki.

Immerse yourself in an adventurous road trip as you journey towards Nanyuki. You will then arrive at Mount Kenya Safari Club.

Day 8– Nanyuki

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 364sq km wildlife conservancy situated between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdares and its game-to-area ratio tops the Kenyan park and reserve league.

It has the fastest-growing population of rhinos in Africa can be found. There are southern white rhinos, about 80 endangered black rhinos and in a special sanctuary there are two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos.

 Day 9 Nanyuki – Naivasha

After an early breakfast, you will start your drive to Lake Naivasha to be in time for Late Lunch. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Optional boat rides on the hippo-inhabited lake or memorable walks on Crescent Island can be organized if requested.

Day 10 – Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake surrounded by forests of Yellow Barked Acacia also known as Yellow Fever trees.

The surrounding forests abound with bird life and make it a bird-watchers paradise with over 350 species recorded.

There is a healthy population of hippos as well. Activities such as a boat ride on the lake or a guided walk on Crescent Island to get up close with the resident zebras, gazelles and giraffes are highly recommended.

Day 11 – Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara

After an early breakfast, your journey takes you to the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve.

The drive from Lake Naivasha takes about 4 hours to the gate, but will allow you to experience the wide-open landscape of the Great Rift Valley.

Enjoy a first sense of true adventure as you make your way through the park to your chosen camp/lodge.

You will arrive in time for lunch, followed by your check-in. Thereafter, you will embark on your very first fully-fledged game drive in the Masai Mara in the afternoon.

Day 12 – Maasai Mara

Today enjoy a full day in the stunning Masai Mara. Two game drives are recommended in a day, one in the early morning and another one in the late afternoon.

Alternatively, you can choose to have an early breakfast and then embark on a more extensive full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch.

This will allow you to also explore more remote areas of the reserve and discover its diverse landscape more intensively.

Day 13-  Masai Mara to Nairobi

After an early breakfast at the lodge/camp, bid farewell to the Mara as you start your road trip back to the capital.

Drive back through the Great Rift Valley, passing numerous smaller and bigger dormant volcanos along the way. With a picnic lunch on the way, you will return to Kenya’s bustling capital city where you will be taken to your place of residence.
